My best friend, Emily and I have known each other since freshman year. We were dorm mates for the first two years, until she moved in with her boyfriend, Matt. Emily and I both met Matt at the same party last year. The night we all met, he had a girlfriend who was at the party, but they were fighting and soon broke up after that. Emily and Matt ended up in a class together next term, so they started dating. Now Matt was coming over to our dorm regularly to study with Emily. Since it was my dorm too, he was always really nice to me. He spent the night a couple of times and I could hear them making out in the dark. Every time, I fell asleep fantasizing about making out with him.
A couple of weeks ago Matt and Emily got into an argument about something. The whole time Emily told me about it, I kept thinking that Matt was right and that she’s being too demanding. When I ran into Matt after their fight, I told him I could sympathize with his side and he felt relieved. The truth is I always had some feelings for Matt, but never acted on them. I don’t feel like I’ve done anything wrong as a friend, but I still feel guilty for secretly wanting Emily and Matt to break up and for thinking about him constantly.
