Hair chalking has become a popular trend to get colorful dip-dyed locks without the commitment. Many use bright chalk pastels from the craft store to achieve this temporary look, but you may have a cheaper solution right under your nose… Neon or bright colored eye shadow can be applied to the ends of the hair to get the same results craft store chalk pastels. To chalk your tips using a shadow, simply pick a bright eye shadow and with the help of your fingers, stripe the shadow on your ends. I used neon pink and green eye shadows from the brand Bloody Mary (http://www.dearbloodymary.com/index.html) to get this look. They also just launched their own hair chalks (so that’s another option). If you dampen your hair with a spray bottle ahead of time, the colors will adhere better and appear more natural. This method works on both dark hair like mine, and light hair. If you have extremely light hair, the pigment may stain temporarily, so apply on dry hair. Seal the look off with a spritz of hairspray and you’re ready for a night on the town!
